THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE REST OF 'US SUCKERS'

To the editor:

My grandmother used to say "sometimes I wonder what the world is coming to."

I wondered too the other day when I heard a news report on television.

Apparently the "cops," after a very lengthy investigation, rounded up the 
"bad" guys and charged them with trafficking in multi-millions of dollars 
in drugs weekly. One up for the good guys.

The bad guys went to court and said they couldn't afford a lawyer so one 
was supplied for them at our expense.

Said lawyer applied to the judge for a raise in pay, saying the case was 
complicated and His Honour agreed that we should pay the barrister $500 an 
hour.

My disability pension is just under $600 a month. Try living on that Your 
Honour.

So we have the bad guys, the good guys, and the what? The "not-so-good guys?"

Then we have us, the suckers... ah, rather, sorry, the taxpayers.

The world is still coming to something Gramma, but I'm not sure what.
