PUBLIC EVICTIONS

Editor -- The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision giving housing authorities
the power to evict tenants if a relative or guest engages in drug activity
was very interesting. It seems to be based on the government's
unwillingness to tolerate longer, slower and much more sensible approaches
to combat drugs, such as social programs.

It's also a significant slap in the face of the poor who can obviously lose
their residences quite easily without this ruling. Now, a careless action
by a teenager could bring an entire family into ruin. It's senseless.
