DRUG PROBLEM EVIDENT IN TERREBONNE PARISH

By a court order my 15-year-old son was admitted to a drug rehab center in
Baton Rouge. On the day he was admitted, both a counselor and a hospital
worker questioned me as to why they are admitting so many children from
Terrebonne Parish. The drug problem here is definitely out of control.

Recently, I have heard that there is a possibility that the D.A.R.E.
program in Terrebonne Parish may be discontinued due to lack of funds. I
feel the program is greatly needed to educate our children on the dangers
of drug use. The D.A.R.E. program needs to be introduced at a lower grade
level due to the fact that a child is most impressionable between the ages
of 7 and 12. This could stop your child from being tempted to use drugs
during their pre-teen years. This could prevent the heartache of having to
watch your child struggle with drug addiction. Parents need to unite in
order to get the help needed to save our children.
