DRUG BUSTS AFFECT LAW

(Of Supply And Demand)

Re: Your April 11 story, "Drug-busting Groves home safe":

If the commander of the USS Stephen W. Groves seriously thinks that a few
drug busts on the high seas has stopped or even momentarily interfered with
the flow of drugs into the United States, this man is unfit for military
leadership.

The plain truth is that drug crusader activity does nothing more than
provide a price support for drug traffickers that raises the price of
ordinary plants to the same level as gold or platinum.

Sending the USS Stephen W. Groves out to interdict drugs is a waste of
resources that should be dedicated to serious military threats, like real
terrorists.

The only "definite results" America's drug war produces is to make the
cartels billions of dollars.

Capt. Tim Werre's inane posturing reminds me of the way Eliot Ness made Al
Capone rich with his raids during Alcohol Prohibition in the 1920s and '30s.
