OREGON: SUSPENSION IN MARIJUANA PRESCRIPTIONS

The doctor who has signed nearly half of the state's prescriptions for
medical marijuana has agreed to have his license suspended for 90 days and
pay a $5,000 fine to answer charges that he often failed to see his
patients and kept poor records. The settlement between the doctor, Phillip
Leveque, 79, and the Board of Medical Examiners will probably be approved
by the 11-member board by Friday, said Dr. Marcia Darm, its chairwoman. A
law enacted in 1998 allows patients with debilitating diseases like cancer
and glaucoma to grow and use marijuana.
