NO DRUGS FOUND IN EAST CAMPUS

Drug dogs searched Manhattan High School's east campus Tuesday morning,
yielding about the same results as last week's search of the MHS west
campus, principal Terry McCarty said. Although the dogs alerted the
officials to items that smelled of drugs, no actual substances were found.
From three to seven lockers were alerted by more than one of the three
dogs brought in by the Kansas Highway Patrol for the search. Administrators
plan to follow up on the alerted lockers, McCarty said. At about 9 a.m.,
the classrooms were locked down as the dogs searched all lockers and a
random classroom. "It went really well," McCarty said. "The kids were
excellent." He said he doesn't know if there will be additional searches
before the end of the year. Students were alerted by posters that the
premises were subject to search, McCarty said.
