FREE CHOICE

Re: "Senate committee questions pot laws," May 3.

The theory of addiction has never been proven. We all have free will and
there are no supernatural powers contained in any chemicals on the periodic
table that can destroy free will. Addictions are stigmatizing terms that
are culturally conditioned.

There is no such thing as a hard drug or a soft drug, only good and bad
relationships with drugs. The World Health Organization rates alcohol and
tobacco as far more harmful than opiates or cocaine. That is the same
conclusion reached by the LeDain Commission on drugs some 25 years ago.

There is a third course of action for Canadians tired of financing the
culture wars. You could simply leave drug choosers alone.
