NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES MADE TO DIVISIONAL DRUG POLICY

The school division isn't making significant changes to its drug policy.

WCHS parent council members had implored the division to allow school lock
downs while police conduct searches using drug dogs. The division's current
policy already allows police dogs to be used in searches, if a principal
suspects drugs are in the building, but administration is rewording the
policy to clarify if and when principals can do backpack and locker
searches for drugs.

"We've not had to call in the dogs yet, but that will probably happen
soon," said Hal Kluczny, Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools (WRPS)
superintendent.
