DRUG ENFORCEMENT COMMISSION ARRESTS NASTY D OVER 15 GRAMMES OF CANNABIS

Lusaka -- MUSICIAN and politician Davis Ngoma popularly known as "Nasty D"
has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission officers in Kabwe.

Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) spokesperson Betty Mumba confirmed the
arrest of Ngoma, 30, of Lusaka.

"He was found with 15 grams of cannabis and would appear in court soon,"
she said.

Mumba said it was regrettable that a high profiled musician like Nasty D
could engage himself in drug related offences.

Ngoma was arrested at his other house located on Ndola Road in Kabwe on
Saturday morning.

DEC officers searched the house and found "Nasty D" with 21 balls of cannabis.

"It does not auger well for a high profiled musician like nasty 'D' to be
caught on a drug offence," said Mumba.

She said musicians should be role models in the fight against drug
trafficking and abuse.

Mumba further appealed to the music industry to be drug free and make
positive contributions to the effective eradication of drug abuse in Zambia.

"Nasty D" who is detained at Kasanda Police Station said he was expecting
to be taken to court today and would be represented by Mulilo Kabasha and
Company following instructions from his lawyers Shamwana and Company.

He said he was not bitter over his arrest and would wait to see how the
case goes.

"You know I am arrested and will appear in court, let us wait and see the
way forward," said Ngoma.

And two people were killed by lightning on the start of rains in Kabwe.

Goodson Shamboka, 58, of 5 Acres plots in Kabwe's Bwacha constituency was
struck by lightning around 21:00 hrs on Friday together with Margaret Phiri
aged 61 of the same area.

Records at Kabwe General Hospital revealed that the two bodies were brought
in dead by a police officer from Bwacha Police Station.

The deceased's bodies are lying in Kabwe General Hospital mortuary.
