SAD 9 STUDENT EXPELLED

School Officials Say Teen Was Selling Marijuana

FARMINGTON - A Mt. Blue High School student has been expelled for
breaking the school's anti-drug policies.

School Administrative District 9 directors voted unanimously Tuesday
night to expel the male student for possessing and selling marijuana
on school grounds.

According to the decision, which followed a closed-door session with
the boy and his parent, he cannot attend day classes at the school,
but can attend classes in the SAD 9 Adult Education program provided
he follows the program's rules.

He can apply for readmission to the high school at some point if he
can provide evidence of participation in a drug-counseling program,
according to the board's ruling.

Previously, the student had been suspended from the school for 10
days, the maximum allowed. Further disciplinary action must be handled
by the school board.

In November, directors expelled a Mt. Blue Middle School girl for
providing an alcoholic beverage during a morning bus run. And in
October, another middle school girl was expelled for passing around
marijuana on an athletic bus trip.

Also Tuesday night, directors unanimously readmitted a girl after she
provided written evidence of attending counseling sessions and
assuring the board the infraction which led to her expulsion will not
reoccur.

SAD 9 officials would not provide details of the school she attends or
the nature of her offense.

Directors Tuesday night also authorized short-term borrowing of up to
$500,000 to cover payroll and other expenses due to a temporary
shortfall in district funds.

According to officials, the district had several bills to pay in the
fall, including a $640,000 payment on the middle school renovation
bond.
