DRUG-FREE MARSHALS PROPOSE SAFETY PLEDGE FOR ALL DRIVERS

Editor: It is alarming to page through any daily newspaper and see the
number of stories highlighting alcohol-related injuries and deaths. The
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 560 people
will die over the Fourth of July weekend, and that 55 percent of those
deaths will be alcohol-related.

The Drug-Free Marshals, an anti-drug campaign sponsored by the Church of
Scientology and inspired by drug prevention technology developed by founder
L. Ron Hubbard is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. In a
continuing effort to encourage safety in our communities, we would suggest
that each person with a drivers license take a moment to realize the
responsibility which goes along with the privilege of driving.

Drug- Free Marshals are young people who have taken a pledge to live
drug-free lives and to let others know about the dangers posed by drugs,
both legal and illegal. To that end, we propose the following summer of
safety pledge for everyone who drives:

As a responsible driver I pledge to make it a safe summer by: Never driving
when I have had too much to drink. Ensuring that there is a designated
driver who remains sober. Setting a good example by urging my friends not
to drink and drive.

Make this promise to yourself, and vow to keep it.
