POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED

A 23 Division uniform police officer was arrested yesterday after an 
investigation by the Toronto and Peel police services.

Const. Kim Alavathil, who joined the service three years ago, has been 
charged with conspiracy to traffic in marijuana, traffic marijuana, 
conspiracy to obstruct justice and conspiracy to commit breach of trust. He 
was to appear in court yesterday. During the investigation, which was 
launched in February, a total of 19 people were arrested and more than 80 
charges were laid, police said.
