Humboldt County Sheriff's Department officials said Monday the probe into Giauque's disappearance remained where it was last week, with investigators continuing to look for signs of the missing man. Family members of Giauque, a patient of and advocate for medical marijuana, have said they suspect foul play. Giauque, 36, was last seen in northern Mendocino County Aug. 9, when he was enroute to meet a friend. His truck was discovered by Sheriff's Department deputies off the Avenue of the Giants. Last week the FBI joined in the search. Giauque had run-ins with the Sheriff's Department in the past, even suing Humboldt County over an ounce of marijuana seized in a 1999 traffic stop. The lawsuit fizzled when the federal Drug Enforcement Agency became involved and the ounce of pot was eventually destroyed. That controversy at one point prompted Giauque to stage a medical marijuana give-away on the steps of the county courthouse, but he was arrested before he could give any pot away. In August of that year, his Salmon Creek home was raided and an indoor marijuana grow was discovered. Clinton Giauque, brother of the missing man, has claimed that he will pay a $50,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the location of his brother. People with information on the case can call either the Sheriff's Department at 445-7251 or Clinton Giauque at 822-4415. - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
