COUNTY SCHEDULES MEETINGS ON NEW DRUG-TESTING PROGRAM

Morgan County Schools will hold student assemblies and two community meetings
on its new student drug-testing program, according to program coordinator Bill
Hopkins.

School officials and Dr. James Thomas, the medical resource officer for Alabama
Specialty Clinic, the company conducting the random tests, were to go over the
program today at high school assemblies for students and staff only.

Community Meetings

The first community meeting will be Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Falkville High
School auditorium. The second meeting is Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Brewer High
School lunchroom. There will be no meeting at Danville or West Morgan high
schools.

Three to eight random tests will be conducted during the year at a cost of
between $9,000 and $24,000. The policy bans alcohol, illegal drugs,
unauthorized prescription drugs and abused over-the-counter drugs.
