U.S. OUT OF STEP

RE "CANUCK pot: Crack of marijuana" (Aug. 23): Canada is in step with the rest
of the industrialized world. European countries (including Italy and Spain),
the Netherlands (home of the International Court of Justice), Britain, plus
many Australian and even some U.S. states have effectively decriminalized
marijuana. The U.S. is flooded with man-made, killer drugs causing massive
crime in our streets. Our White House Office of National Drug Control Policy's
director should be focused on these instead of this mad mission to make
marijuana into some kind of new, evil drug. While his attentions are misplaced,
"Rome burns."
