GROWERS WANT TO PAY TAXES

Re: Pot haul inflated (Sept. 4). Your comment, "We'd love to tax them
anyway" was quite surprising to read and I think most Canadians would agree
with you.

On my Web site I asked a simple question to growers: Would you pay
taxes in order to become a registered legal grower? Response (325
votes total): No way (51) 16%. Yes (132) 41%. Only if we are treated
as any other company (142) 44%.

Now this is by no means a "real" poll. However, the truth is this is
what most growers want. It's just another business and just like any
other business you'll have those who cheat on their taxes and those
who won't, but for the most part society wins by freeing up police
resources and increasing revenue (legitimately).

(We're going there anyway; why keep extending the tax holiday on one
of the most lucrative industries in Canada?)
