TEMISKAMING OPP SEIZES 1,000 PLANTS WORTH $1 MILLION

New Liskeard:

More than 1,000 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of more
than $1 million were seized in a joint police operation recently.

On Sept. 5, officers from the Temiskaming OPP Crime Unit, the OPP Drug
Enforcement Section and North Bay Police pooled their efforts along with
the help of an OPP helicopter to seize 936 marijuana plants in Lorrain
Township southeast of Haileybury. The plants were seized on five seperate
plots of Crown land.

Police also made two smaller seizures on separate Crown land plots in the
Englehart area.

No charges have yet been laid in regard to the seizures and police are
asking anyone with information to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime
Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

The local seizures were part of a province-wide marijana eradication
program coordinated by the OPP drug enforcement section. Throughout
Northeastern Ontario, police have seized about 16,000 plants so far this year.
