POLICE CHIEF DANIELS' STING A SUCCESS

Re: Rod Shoap, "Sheriff, police battle crime using teamwork approach,"
Oct. 10. We live in Dunbar, and we are thankful for the recent actions
of Fort Myers Police Chief Hilton Daniels and his force. For too long,
the crime and abandoned buildings have been here. This is not only a
problem for our neighborhood but also a problem for the entire
community because the people buying drugs steal from everyone to get
the money.

The police really did a good job. Sheriff Shoap seems to take credit
for the whole thing. I thought the sheriff had authority over all of
Lee County, so why was so little done until now? A few years back,
Shoap said he was going to do all these things with the nuisance
buildings. They always talk about the boundaries in the city, but the
county and state police have the rights to go anywhere and apparently
chose not to.

All politicians are the same: they take credit for things they may or
may not have even been responsible for -- if it is good -- and they
blame others for things that are not good. If the deputized city
officers can do it, why did it take until now and why didn't the
deputies do it? We are just glad it's done, and thanks again Chief
Daniels!
