SNOWPLOW VIOLATORS OFF THE HOOK THIS TIME

Twenty-one tickets given to parked cars in the Sierra Tract on Friday for
obstructing snowplows were dismissed by the South Lake Tahoe Police
Department.

Dave Cunningham, a 15-year resident, was one of those surprised when he
found a ticket for $102 on the windshield of his truck. Cunningham ignored
advice from his wife to move his car from the street, knowing the city
typically gives warnings during the first storm and snow plows were not out.

"It definitely ruined my weekend," Cunningham said. "I thought I was going
to have to pay a $102 ticket for nothing. I think the guy got a little
overzealous for sure."

Tim Donley, code enforcement officer for the city, said the decision to
issue warnings or tickets is given by Brad Vidro, public works director.
Monday was a warning day; Donley said he issued five.

Police Chief Don Muren said the police department will step back and let the
city do the job of citing cars parked on snowy roads or where signs are
placed.

In Other News:

A 31-year-old South Lake Tahoe man faced felony charges when he attempted to
mail 17 grams of marijuana from the Al Tahoe post office to his brother on
Oct. 28, a drug enforcement officer said.

The man had a medical marijuana user card. A medical marijuana sticker was
attached to the box.

The U.S. Postal Service did not press charges and the marijuana was returned
to the man, said Chris Elliott, task force commander for SLEDNET, South
Shore's drug enforcement agency.
