Rock ADDICTS NEED TREATMENT BUT ALSO NEED TO BE ISOLATED FROM SOCIETY Editor, The Record: How much worse does it have to get in Mission with the grow-ops, drug dealings done right on the street in plain view, panhandling, and organized crime, before we start facing up to the problems? Abbotsford has had more then its fair share of murders related to illegal trafficking in drugs. It is only a matter of time - and a very short time at that - before Mission gets its own fair share of drive-by shootings and gang land styled executions. This town is full of open secrets and yet nobody says anything because they want to hide from the truth, preferring to watch staged reality shows instead of seeing what might be happening right in front of their faces as they try to live quiet, decent lives, while doing the best that they can for their families. Hey, if a person wants to pump their lungs full of 5,000 known chemical compounds and slowly "cure" their brain tissue with each toke causing the equivalent damage of 15 regular cigarettes, then let them. The sooner they die off and exit the gene pool the better. But I guess that is very politically incorrect of me to actually say something like that as somebody somewhere came up with the stupid idea we shouldn't make anybody feel bad for their own actions. Well tough, there are too many people making excuses for bad or stupid behaviour. I am so fed up with the "touchy/feely" approach used by bleeding hearts, gospel groups and friendship centers, and other advocates of those poor misunderstood addicts that I could spit nails. In my own small way I am trying my best to clear out some of the worst of those leeches harassing people for money on the streets by letting all the stores in the area I am involved with know what is happening with their neighbouring stores. Those addicts on meth, who happily go get their daily fix and then go right out of the drugstore and resume their drug dealings or prostitute their wasted bodies and wasted lives, are high on my hit list. No, I am not talking about every meth user in Mission as most use this government funded addiction replacement to try and function in society in such as way as not to cause further damage to themselves or society. I am talking about the ones that hang around the malls and other shopping areas of Mission after getting handed their daily "pick me up" by the pharmacists. There are times when we can, and must, yell fire in a crowded theatre and this is one of them. If we don't yell fire loud enough the politicians will never hear us.And if they don't hear us, you better get used to having those cheaters who are prospering at your expense flaunting themselves in your face. As for the addicts themselves, they need treatment but they also need to be isolated from the rest of society somehow as their actions are criminal even if their addiction is a health issue. If that does not happen then you better get used to shopping only in pairs, only during day light hours, and looking over your shoulder at all times like they do in New York or L.A. If you think it is bad now, just wait until April when our government dumps another 20,000 off the welfare rolls and onto the streets. Robert T. Rock, Mission - --- MAP posted-by: Josh
