I think everyone has the right to do what he or she wants to do. I think if the school board were testing everyone, then I would agree with it. But the board is testing only students in extracurricular activities. When a student commits to an extracurricular activity, that student is now representing Hawley ISD. The school board wants to make Hawley a better place, and doing this, it may work. All schools want the best of the best representing them. We all have to remember that extracurricular activities are a privilege and not all students are in them. Being in an extracurricular activity means you are participating in what is a privilege, and I think it gives the school board the right to test the students. LAKEN TILLY Editor's Note: These letters were submitted by students in Melanie Ragland's journalism class at Hawley High School in response to Jim Parker's Jan. 24 letter to the editor, "Hawley drug testing invasion of privacy." - --- MAP posted-by: SHeath(DPFFlorida)
