SEIZE MORE ASSETS, THAKSIN URGES POLICE

Anti-drug authorities must work harder to seize more assets belonging to
traders, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said yesterday.

Since the beginning of the war on drugs on Feb 1, authorities had arrested
about 26,000 drug traders and producers and seized assets worth about 400
million baht.

Also, 373 government officials with drug-trade links had been punished and
action was being taken against another 390.

"The total value of seized assets is still very small. We must do
everything to find out where they have hidden their assets. Some of them
have many wives, we have to check all of them.

"We must go after all traders and producers. They are not suitable to be
part of our society. They deserve to be put in jail. Drug traders who fight
back must be dealt with decisively," he said.
