the city of Columbia, failed in Tuesday's municipal election.

Nearly 58 percent of Columbians voted against the proposition, which also
would have legalized marijuana for medical use and would have required that
marijuana offenses -- under most circumstances -- be prosecuted in
municipal court.

Austin Hake, an MU junior running for city councilman in the Sixth
Ward, finished a distant third, taking only about 19 percent of the vote.

In that race, Brian Ash received almost 42 percent of the vote, compared to
Ben Orzeske's 39, a margin of only 58 votes.

In the second ward, Christopher Janku trounced James Pound, gaining almost
75 percent of the vote.

Columbians voted in favor of an increase in the school levy tax, which will
raise an estimated $2.5 million dollars for the Columbia School district.

Voter turnout was sparce, with only about 28 percent of Columbians
registered to vote actually casting ballots.
