RAVE LEAVES N. VAN TEEN IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Police are trying to track down the source of an ecstasy-related drug
overdose that left a 15-year-old North Vancouver girl in critical condition
following a weekend rave at the Plaza of Nations.

Officers monitoring the all-night event found the girl with a friend in a
bathroom stall at about 5:30 a.m. Ambulance workers examined the two, who
admitted to doing ecstasy, and said they seemed to be fine.

The 15-year-old's mother arrived and went with officers to look for her
older daughter, who was also at the rave. It was then that the younger girl
began to have seizures. She was taken to hospital where she suffered more
seizures and possibly a heart attack.

"It's difficult to know exactly what she consumed," said Vancouver police
Const. Anne Drennan.

RCMP drug-awareness officer Cpl. Scott Rintoul, who was at the rave, said
it was run by a reputable company and monitored by a good security firm.

Drennan said police will interview the girl's friend as well as others who
may have been partying with the victim before the overdose to try to
determine the drug's source.
