FANTINO SHOULD CHASE TAX DODGERS

(re: Highest court backs pot law, Dec. 24.)

Toronto police Chief Julian Fantino can barely conceal his glee at the
prospect of sending out legions of law enforcers to combat the dread scourge
of marijuana. The ostensible reason for doing this, he relates, is to strike
a telling blow at the works and profits of organized crime.

Both from the standpoint of morals and economic returns, the police would be
better advised to beef up their fraud squad and assist the provincial
government in its attempt to recover millions of dollars from businesses
that in some cases do not even take the trouble to file tax returns.

That would really be hitting organized crime where it hurts.
