The plant, which was visible from the King's Highway at Lovu in Lautoka, was spotted by a police officer on foot patrol. On Wednesday, police questioned near-by villagers and were looking for the owner of the cassava and bele patch. Divisional Crime Officer Superintendent Vijay Singh said the plant was sent to the government laboratory for tests. He said it is shocking to see cultivators boldly plant marijuana in view of everyone. Lovu Sangam Primary School Headteacher Ramamma Naicker said it worried her that her students used the road every day where the plant was found. She said students were well informed of the effects of drug abuse thanks to regular visits by police officers. But she said the discovery of a marijuana plant near the school called for another discussion with students on drug abuse. - --- MAP posted-by: Richard Lake
