Referenced: http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04.n1224.a08.html FINE WAY TO TREAT ADDICTS In response to Rhiannon Kuzmin's letter of Aug. 28 (Crack kits a wise move) and her question about how rehabilitation spaces for drug users is to be accomplished; according to my recollection, in the early '90s - -- when Winnipeg was sold on the idea of allowing VLTs and casinos -- a significant portion of the proceeds were promised towards improving these very services. By now, the people of Winnipeg should not only be expecting beds and spaces in its disgraceful, crumbling re-hab centre -- we should have the best, state-of-the-art facilities available. But, guess what? Supplying users with fifty-cent crack pipes while reducing space in re-habs actually does ensure that fewer people will need rehabilitative services and treatment for communicable diseases . because they'll be dead. How very economical. Laura Chase Winnipeg (That's it. Kill the addicts with kindness.) - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
