POWERFUL DRUG KILLS 2

They Were Both Great Kids.

But when two Timmins teenagers took their chances with a mysterious
little red pill, they curtailed their young lives, leaving those who
knew them reeling with pain.

The Timmins Police Service are still investigating the deaths of
Daniel Drouin, 19, and Andrew Tessier, 17, who are believed to have
died suddenly after consuming pills containing time-release morphine.

At least one other teen was treated at hospital, police said.

Police were investigating how the pills were distributed at several
high schools Friday.

"We currently have one person in custody in relation to the two
deaths," said Insp. Michael McGinn of the Timmins Police Service.

Responding to a call, officers found Drouin dead in his residence
around 9 p.m. Thursday.

"Through our investigations on that it appears he had consumed a small
red pill," McGinn said.

At 7:45 a.m. Friday, police learned the second teenager, Tessier, had
died in his residence after taking the same type of pill.

Though a post-mortem examination must be completed to determine the
exact cause of death, police believe that both youths died from taking
the drug, known as Oxy or OxyContin on the street.

The pills may have been distributed to students at Roland Michener

Secondary School, Ecole secondaire publique Renaissance and possibly
one other, he said.

Drouin, a recent graduate of Ecole Secondaire Theriault, was his
father's pride and joy.
