MOPOL NABBED OVER DRUG TRAFFICKING

Lagos - NEMESIS has caught up with a mobile policeman who provided escort
for a syndicate which specialises in drug trafficking.

The cop and a civilian were nabbed Thursday by the Bayelsa State Police
Command during a stop and search operation at the East-West Road. The cop
and two others driving in a Toyota bus with registration number AR 734 BEN
were found with 50 bags of Indian hemp.

It was gathered that the cop whose name is Anelka Nelson who claimed to be
serving with MOPOL 5 Benin City wanted to use his influence to stall the
search on the bag but he was rebuffed by the police men on duty.

During the search the patrol team found the well concealed bags of Indian
hemp. Sensing the end has come for their nefarious act, the suspected gang
leader took to his heels leaving behind the cop and another.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of
Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Andrew Oborududu said the suspects were
nabbed between Sagbama Kaiama road which is part of the East-West highway
by 3.30 am on Thursday.

The police spokesman said the two suspects are cooling their feet in the
police cell, adding that if Mr. Nelson was found to be a serving police man
as he claimed he would face order room trial.

"If he is found guilty of the offence, he would be dismissed from the
force", he noted.

Besides dismissal, Mr. Oborududu said the cop would be handed over to the
National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further prosecution.

"Nigeria Police will no longer condone any act of indiscipline, licence,
the reason why the force is doing everything humanly possible to flushout
the bad eggs,"
