WAR ON DRUGS

Re: "I-25 drug smuggling snuffed," Oct. 20 news story.

Congratulations to the Drug Enforcement Agency for a truly major
victory in the war on drugs. As U.S. Attorney John Suthers pointed
out, we are indeed winning that war. Since 1981, when President Reagan
gave us the resources for the investigators, prosecutors and
cooperative law enforcement necessary to wage the war, use of illicit
drugs in America has been cut in half. That fact speaks far more
loudly than the incessant drumbeat of naive rhetoric from the
Libertarians, the liberals, and the rest of the pro-legalization
crowd. We are winning, and we will continue to win, as long as we have
the courage to continue the fight.
