SADD AT LOURDES CELEBRATES RED RIBBON WEEK

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School's Students
Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) participated in a Red Ribbon Campaign
Monday through Friday in observance of National Red Ribbon Week.

The week-long observance, celebrated in schools nationwide, is held to
symbolize and promote the importance of a drug-free lifestyle. The Lourdes
student body participated in various activities to create peer unity and
awareness of the consequences of drug use.

Among the activities was a homeroom door decorating contest where classroom
doors were decorated with the theme of a commitment to safe, healthy and
drug-free lifestyle. Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place.

Red ribbons were distributed for all students to wear, and SADD members
decorated cars with red ribbons.

Thursday was "Grim Reaper Day," which promoted the message that every 33
minutes, someone is killed in a drunk-driving crash. A special bell rang
every 33 minutes during the school day, and SADD officers dressed up as
grim reapers to pick "victims" at those time intervals. The "victims" were
not allowed to talk the entire day.

Students who wore their red ribbons the entire week received prizes. A
continuous stream of enthusiasm and pride was evident throughout the week.

SADD officers are: President, Seamus West, vice president, Veronica
Kalejta; secretary, Sarah Tenon; and aide, Joshua Filer.
