Your kids might. The Seaforth community policing group is hosting a meeting to discuss the availability of street drugs in this area and what parents and teachers should know about them. "It's hard to identify and help somebody involved with that (drugs) if you're not even aware of what's going on," said Elliott. The meeting will touch on topics such as: what kind of drugs are available in this area; what the costs of drugs are; signs that your child may be buying or using drugs and what kind of language may be associated with drugs. Elliott said that this meeting will help people be "a little more savvy when it comes to picking up hints that things are going on," said Elliott. "We thought it would empower people if they knew what was out there." Const. Dave Gillan, of the Huron OPP, explained that the problem with street drugs extends further than just the illegal substance. Gillian said that along with health problems, drug users can also start to delve into crime to help fund their addiction. "There's a wider circle than just the drug itself," said Gillan. Recent reports of marijuana mixed in with crops and grow houses in the area helped spur on the topic of this meeting, according to Elliott. "It has been shared with us by the police that there are street drugs around here," said Elliott. "I just think it would help people to be aware of them." The Nov. 15 meeting will be held in town hall council chambers at 7:30 p.m. - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
