Angela Lawrence, the school district's drug and alcohol prevention co-ordinator, in conjunction with the Phoenix Centre and the City of Kamloops, has been working since May putting together 13 pamphlets on substance abuse. The pamphlets, she said, are meant to inform - not scare. "We wanted to stick to a health promotion perspective, looking at drug and alcohol as a health issue," Lawrence said. "So rather than scare tactics, we're giving just the bare facts." The challenge facing her and fellow drug educators was finding good, accurate information. "This business is traditionally riddled [by the philosophy]: 'Let's scare 'em and we'll see.'13" The pamphlets are geared to students, parents, school personnel, and health professionals. They focus on specific drugs like cocaine, marijuana and alcohol, as well as how to be a role model and how to identify when you or someone you know has a drug problem. - --- MAP posted-by: Derek
