ILLEGAL VICES UNTAXED

Dear Editor,

Your correspondent was right on target in his thoughtful letter [All
Harm In Prohibition, Dec. 7 Letters to the Editor, Langley Advance
News].

I'd like to add that, because certain politically selected drugs are
illegal, they are of unknown quality, unknown purity, and unknown
potency - just like alcohol was when it was illegal.

And just like alcohol was when it was illegal, prohibited drugs are
unregulated, untaxed, and controlled by criminals.

Speaking of taxes, it seems to me that non-drug users would be very
much in favour of taxing products that they don't use. Around here,
taxing another person's vice is very popular.
