SUBSTANCE-ABUSE ASSISTANCE SUFFERS

Number Of Addicts Treated Falls As Use Of Drugs Climbs

Fewer Coloradans are being treated for substance abuse today than they were
a decade ago, even as illicit drug use and its social costs skyrocket.

In 1992, state-licensed treatment centers in Colorado served 54,000 people.
Nine years later, as the population grew by 1 million, the centers served
43,000, according to the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division of the State
Department of Human Services.
