PROHIBITION IS NOT THE ANSWER

As a retired police officer, I had to chuckle and then cry
over the statements from Ms. Morgan ("Group's reaction puzzles
resident," Jan. 23) concerning the 50-year sentence (for Kado
Jackson). Ms. Morgan, we in law enforcement know that every drug
dealer arrested or killed is quickly replaced. If you want to end the
violence and death and 75 percent of the felony crime in Mississippi,
you need to get rid of drug prohibition.

A policy whose cornerstone is personal responsibility would help both
individuals and society. The government and its police are not the
answer.
