HOLD POLITICIANS ACCOUNTABLE

Re: "Illegal drugs breed violence," Your Opinions, Feb. 12.

We, the citizens of the United States and citizens of the world, have been
subjected to huge amounts of human rights abuses in the name of drug crime,
which is an artificial crime -- a crime because politicians say it is.

It may be that the present approach is the only way to deal with the
problem, but with the volume of suffering brought on by our laws and our
worldwide influence, those politicians responsible for our plight need to be
very certain that it is the only way.

The laws against alcohol were based in a constitutional amendment, which was
later repealed. If the drug war is wrong, can the politicians be held
accountable for aiding and abetting in all the crimes that result?
