DRUG WAR - MU'AZU COMMENDS NDLEA

BAUCHI -- The Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu yesterday
commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its untiring
fight against drug trafficking and other vices in the country.

Mu'azu who gave the commendation at the state agency's command headquarters
during the command exhibition and destruction ceremony in Bauchi, called
for total support of government and the people of Nigeria towards the
success of the agency's campaign against drug trafficking and other related
offences.

Represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Abdulmalik Mahmood, the governor observed
that in the past, Nigerians travelling abroad were subjected to humiliating
and dehumanising processes at entry points as if they were criminals
because of drug trafficking.

He however noted that with the coming of the NDLEA, the nation's image has
once again been redeemed, with the people going about their businesses
without molestation or harassment.

The state government, he said, has been very supportive of the agency's
various programmes through enlightenment programmes to educate and
sensitise communities and the citizenry in general on the need for them to
shun drugs consumption and trafficking in the state.

While highlighting government's "various supportive hands to the NDLEA in
Bauchi State,"the governor noted that in January last year, the state
government allocated a Peugeot Saloon 504 car for the agency's official use
as well as a Toyota Hilux Pick Up van for operational use in the state.

In his address, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA,
Alhaji Bello Lafiagi expressed appreciation on the effort being made by the
state government and the command of the agency to rid the society of
dangerous drugs.
