STUDENT GROUP SPONSORED SPEAKER TO DISCUSS LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS

POCATELLO - Howard Wooldridge, a member of Law Enforcement Against
Prohibition, will present "This is Not a War on Drugs - It's a War on
People" at 7 p.m. March 9 in the Idaho State University Pond Student
Union Building ballroom.

Wooldridge's talk is sponsored by the Associated Students of ISU and
is free for ISU students, $3 for ISU faculty and staff and high school
students, and $5 for the general public, according to a press release.

Wooldridge will discuss how the U.S. war on drugs has failed to end
death, crime and addiction associated with drug use. He and other LEAP
members say that drug prohibition has expanded the police force and
the prison system and caused more pain, suffering, and death than the
drugs themselves.

As a former law enforcement officer, Wooldridge saw more people killed
and injured from the effects of alcohol than from illegal drugs. His
belief that more time and money should be spent combating drunken
driving, rather than searching cars for marijuana, led him to join
LEAP and speak out against the drug war.

Recently Wooldridge rode his horse 3,100 miles across America to warn
people of the consequences of drug prohibition, paralleling Paul
Revere's historic ride to warn people that the British were coming.

"Protect and serve is in my blood and now that motto takes the shape
of ending prohibition and promoting personal responsibility for those
who choose to use any drug," Wooldridge said.
