WAR, ON DRUGS

Editor, The NEWS:

Re: How to spot a meth user (March 17).

I find it interesting that your article only mentions amphetamine use in
the military as a historical footnote, when the practice is still in use.
Two F-16 pilots from the Illinois Air National Guard caused the deaths of
four Canadian soldiers during a "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan. It
was suggested in court martial proceedings that their judgment was impaired
by Dexedrine, an amphetamine which their CO forced on them under threat of
disciplinary action. They say the army calls it a "go pill".

So perhaps, while you're warning Canadians how to spot and avoid the
dangers of meth users, you should warn them about their partners in the War
on Terror. And come to think of it, aren't you guys fighting a drug war
together, too?
