DRUG LAWS QUIZZED

Members of the Liberal/Labor coalition want to prohibit petrol sniffing.

Independent MLA Lorraine Braham believes that prohibiting petrol sniffing
will not work. Health Minister Peter Toyne agrees, adding that a ban would
be "counter productive".

Dr Toyne argued "the core of the work to address this problem is not
enforcement, it's working with the kids and their families,".

Ms Braham expressed concern that "we would only be producing more work for
police".

Can Minister Dr Toyne and Ms Braham explain why the the situation is
different for amphetamines, cannabis and opiates?

Can prohibition work for one substance, but not for another?
