GROAN IN THE NAME OF DRUGS

Sir - America is in no position to criticise Britain's drug policy (News, 
Apr 2). No country has spent so much attempting to nullify the economic law 
of supply and demand, nor imprisoned more of its citizens for drug law 
violations as America. No country has been less successful in stopping the 
supply of illegal drugs.

As long as people want to purchase recreational drugs and are willing to 
pay a substantial price to do so, people will produce and supply them.
