D.A.R.E. SHIRTS ARE NEEDED

A donation will help children get recognized for their efforts.

The Clarksville police need your help.

Every year since 1989, officers have bought T-shirts for the local
school system's fifth-grade graduates of Drug Abuse Resistance
Education. The shirts are a reward for the kids, as well as serve as
an anti-drug use reminder.

This year, however, police came up short in their shirt fund by about
$3,000. Pals of D.A.R.E., a group of citizens who assist the program,
started organizing fund-raisers to bring in more money.

Several schools and the schools' Central Office also have gotten into
the spirit by having blue jean days. Everyone wearing blue jeans
contribute $2 toward the T-shirt fund.

Each year's shirt is special, but this one is even more so because it
includes a Fort Campbell-type patch on the pocket to salute our soldiers.

If you would like to make a donation to ensure that all 2,200
Montgomery County fifth-grade graduates of the D.A.R.E. program get a
shirt that they have earned, contributions are being taken at the
Legends Bank to Pals of D.A.R.E.

This means a lot to the children and their adherence to the principles
that lead to resisting drugs. Please consider helping them out.
