GANG WORKSHOP NEXT WEEK

A public workshop on gangs takes place next Thursday evening, May 20, at
Pioneer House.

The workshop, organized by Citizens On Patrol and Community Watch, will
look at what parents should watch for in their children, and how to help
youths stay out of gangs.

Former gang members will conduct the free workshop from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

"It's in no way implying that we have a gang problem in Fort Saskatchewan,
but we'd like to be proactive," says City Council member Tami Petroski, a
member of Citizens On Patrol.

Concerns about rising Crystal Meth drug use prompted a workshop on that
subject last week. That workshop was aimed at teaching local businesses how
to look for those people purchasing items used to make Crystal Meth.

City Council recently approved the addition of another officer to the local
RCMP detachment, and officials have said that a plain clothes drug unit
will be formed in Fort Saskatchewan.
