8,900 MARIJUANA PLANTS SEIZED IN RAID

GLENN COUNTY More than 8,900 marijuana plants were seized in a raid of an
isolated area of Mendocino National Forest in Glenn County on Tuesday by a
joint force of Forest Service law enforcement officers and the Glenn County
Sheriff's Department Marijuana Eradication Team.

Forest Service law enforcement officers were following up on information
they had obtained regarding suspicious activity in the area. Acting on that
information, the officers discovered a large marijuana garden while
conducting a general search of the area.

After observing the situation, the Forest Service officers requested
assistance from the Glenn County Sheriff.

The combined force uncovered a nursery with marijuana seeds growing in 700
containers with five seeds per container. Officers said that this marijuana
operation could have yielded up to $14 million.

The number of plants seized at the Glenn County site on Tuesday exceeded
the number found in the national forest for all of last year when a total
of 8,000 plants were confiscated, the Forest Service said. Last year,
nearly $74.4 million worth of marijuana was found in Mendocino National
Forest, which lies in portions of six counties.

Law enforcement officers advise citizens who come upon something suspicious
in the national forest to immediately leave the area and notify authorities.
