Over the past week or so, the detachment has carried out three drug seizures resulting in the confiscation of about 100 grams of marijuana, worth about $2,000. "I know a lot of the time people think of the big players but there are also a lot of street-level fellows who are doing this to maintain their income," says Constable Craig Smith of the town detachment's general investigation section (GIS). "Taking that $2,000 out of their hands does make a dent in it because obviously they're trying to sell it and turn a profit." Const. Smith notes while a mandate of the GIS unit is to target local drug activity, the detachment's general duty members who in the course of their regular duties are keeping an eye out for drug activity carried out the most recent seizures. "We're just trying to get the message out to the public that we are trying to make a dent in the street-level stuff that's going on and we have heightened our interest in it," Const. Smith says. Four individuals will face charges in relation to the recent seizures. - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
