NDLEA WANTS REHABILITATION CENTRE ESTABLISHED

Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Akwa Ibom command has called
on the state government to establish a rehabilitation / treatment centre,
where drug dependent persons could be accommodated for treatment.

Making this call in Uyo, at a press briefing to begin activities, marking
the United Nations International week against drug abuse and illicit drug
trafficking; the state commandant of NDLEA, Mrs. Florence Dan Archibong
said it was important for drug addicts to go through a clinical treatment
process by way of detoxification, maintenance, and counseling through
various methods, including religious and psychological methods.

She expressed concern over the use of illicit substances and admitted that
though the commandant had made tremendous progress in the past nine months
of its existence, it was far from winning the battle against drug
trafficking in the state.

She reiterated that drug abuse was a "global problem and youths between the
ages of 15 and 38 fall victims." She added that most of the crimes
committed in the polity is as a result of drug influence.

She encouraged drug addicts in the state to come out for treatment and
promised that NDLEA does not arrest drug users but counsels and send's them
back to their families.
