DUBAI POLICE MARK ANTI-DRUGS DAY

DUBAI - Dubai Police on Sunday marked the World Day Against Drugs with
a number of activities, including the First Annual Forum on Drug
Issues, held at the Dubai Police Officers Club.

The activities, marking the world event, which fell on June 26, were
held under the auspices of Dubai Police Chief Lt-Gen. Dhahi Khalfan
Tamim. There was also a drama performance by the General Directorate
of Punitive Establishments at the Officers Club.

The activities started at 8.30am with the forum, attended by top
experts from the UAE and other countries, including Dr Mohammed
Abdullah Al Rukn, Dr Fahd Al Sabhan, Brigadier Khamis Al Mazainag of
the CID, Colonel Abdullah Abdeiwim Dr Hissa Lootah, Dr Al Zeen Abbas
Ammara, Dr Majdi Mohammed, Major Saleh Abdullah Murad and Prof. Latifa
Khadim.

The forum, which will be a yearly event, stressed the importance of
the participation of government and non-government agencies in the
efforts to fight drugs. Participants also underlined the need to
extend full moral and material support to anti-narcotics divisions in
police departments to help them combat the menace.

The forum highlighted the vital role of the media in fighting drugs
and emphasised the effectiveness of the national strategy adopted to
reduce demand on drugs and to rehabilitate addicts.
