CRIME-FIGHTIN' DOG ALREADY ON JOB WITH MEXIA POLICE

The Mexia Police Department recently employed a new Officer.

His name is Kane.

Kane is a chocolate Labrador Narcotics Detecting K-9, and he is determined
to sniff out crime.

Kane, a drug-sniffing canine, came to work here the first of June and is
assigned to the care of Officer Leonard Stewart.

Kane and Stewart attended a two-week K-9 Handing Training Course, from June
14-25. During this training, Kane and Officer Stewart learned how to detect
the odor of narcotics in vehicles, buildings and open areas.

Kane and Officer Stewart, having completed the course, are now certified by
the State of Texas to detect narcotics.

In the two weeks that Kane and Officer Stewart have been working the
streets together, they have contributed in the seizure of several drugs off
the streets of Mexia. The drugs include marijuana, crack and methamphetamines.

Kane has contributed to the arrests of six suspects in only six nights of
working.

Officer Stewart has been employed with Mexia PD for over a year.
