DRUG SUSPECT GUNNED DOWN

A suspected drug pusher responsible for the entrapment of a former
National Bureau of Investigation agent was gunned down Sunday night
while coming out of the Dumaguete Cockpit and Recreation Center in
Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City.

Dixon "Bobong" Calimutan was shot at close range and sustained four
gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, including the head.

Two bystanders, Alexis Villahermosa, 40, married of Purok Gabi,
Banilad, Dumaguete City, and parking attendant, Frankie Bilanda, 18,
were hit by stray bullets.

Initial police investigation showed that Calimutan had a companion
identified as Rigolo Sy Jr., alias Deden, who, however, claimed not to
have seen the gunman. Ironically, Sy was within touching distance of
the victim.

Witnesses said the gunman walked away from the crime scene and boarded
a waiting motorcycle a few meters away from the cockpit.

They claimed that they saw five persons talking with each other,
including the victim, and after a few minutes, shots rang out.

Recovered from the crime scene were four empty shells of a .45 caliber
pistol.

Also recovered from the body of Calimutan was a "paltik" .45 pistol
tucked in his waistband.

Chief Insp. Manuel Hidalgo, Dumaguete PNP director, said investigators
are looking into the possible motives for Calimutan's killing.

The victim is allegedly into the illegal drug trade, and was facing
charges for illegal possession of drugs. He also figured in an
incident against former NBI agent Hermes Son, who was later dismissed
from service.

Calimutan was the tipster on Son's extortion activities, and texted
the Dumaguete PNP in an entrapment that led to the agent's capture.*JG
